The University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville was largely deserted Saturday morning ahead of a home SEC game against Georgia, with reports describing streets and the surrounding campus area as unusually quiet before kickoff.
The lack of turnout came after the Razorbacks were beaten by the Utah Utes the previous week and returned home to face the Bulldogs. Despite the game being a home conference matchup, the crowd and campus atmosphere were notably thin.
Arkansas went on to lose the game 45-17, with Georgia controlling the contest throughout all four quarters.
The result comes three games into head coach Ryan Silverfield’s tenure at Arkansas. The program has had only four winning seasons over the past decade and has not won ten games in a season during that span.
The empty campus and stands reflect a fan base that has grown accustomed to losing seasons and appears to have lowered its expectations for the program under new leadership.
