ESPN college football host Matt Barrie told viewers on Thursday night to cut ties with anyone getting married this weekend rather than miss a game.

Barrie made the comment during ESPN’s broadcast of the UTSA-FAU matchup, looking ahead to a Saturday slate loaded with ranked-on-ranked games.

“I need to say something, and I’ve never been more serious about something in college football,” Barrie said. “If you’ve got anyone getting married this Saturday, unfamily them or unfriend them, and don’t go.”

The remark drew attention from Outkick, part of Fox News’s sports coverage, which framed Barrie’s comment as speaking directly to the hardcore fans who build their fall weekends around college football rather than social obligations.

Barrie has become a familiar face in ESPN’s college football coverage. His comment lands in the middle of an ongoing, half-serious debate among fans over whether weddings scheduled during college football season deserve an RSVP at all.

Outkick’s commentary noted that anyone already tuned into a Thursday night AAC game between UTSA and FAU is unlikely to have wedding plans competing for their Saturday in the first place.

No further comment from ESPN or Barrie was included beyond the on-air remark.
