Leah Shutkever has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for fastest time to eat a burrito, setting a new mark of 30.75 seconds at Guinness World Records HQ in London this August.

The record had been hers before. Shutkever first set the fastest-burrito-eating record in 2019, eating a 1.35-pound burrito, then broke her own mark in 2022 with a time of 32.35 seconds. Months later, rival speed eater Miki Sudo took the title away, clocking in at 31.47 seconds.

Shutkever’s new time beats Sudo’s by more than half a second, putting the record back in English hands.

This is one of 42 Guinness World Records now held by Shutkever, according to Guinness World Records. She got into competitive eating almost by accident, after starting a YouTube channel for food challenges.

“My origin story of breaking Guinness World Records titles is one that I’ll never get bored of,” Shutkever told Guinness World Records. “I had newly started up a YouTube channel doing food challenges, and I found an official record of fastest time to eat a Chocolate Orange, and I had a go, filmed it for YouTube, posted it, and thought nothing else of it.”

A TV show later contacted her to make that chocolate-orange attempt official, and she has been chasing records ever since.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my career that many opportunities have landed on my desk, and I’ve been the right person with the right appetite to say yes to them,” she said. “Competitiveness definitely plays into the ability to attempt and break a world record. I think personally, I am silly, bold, and brazen enough to put myself in the firing line for all sorts of things.”

The record now sits at 30.75 seconds. Sudo, or any other challenger, would need to beat that time to take the title back.
