It’s no secret that the media elites have a deep-seated love for Barack Obama. But on Monday’s CNN This Morning, Don Lemon stepped in to defend the current President Joe Biden when host Kaitlin Collins pointed out that “Democratic party leaders say that President Biden may still be the ticket for 2024 even if they’re not passionate about him.” His response? “The people love him!”
You read that right…
I think it’s safe to say that Lemon just told the biggest lie of his entire career and this is from a man who makes his living spinning tales.
Despite recent polls that show 40% of America says things are worse under Biden to the 16% that seems to think things are better—Lemon thinks the people love old Joe.
According to CNN’s Isaac Dovere, party leaders just don’t feel that same level of love for Biden that they had for Obama. But Lemon was quick to point out that there’s a “disconnect between the people and the party leaders” and that the “people on the street love him.”
It’s interesting that Lemon would make such a claim, especially when the poll that Collins had just shown indicated that 58% of Democrats wanted someone other than Biden as their 2024 candidate. Suddenly, the “people” that Lemon was referring to didn’t seem to be so passionate about Biden after all.
In an effort to bolster his case, Lemon enlisted Semafor’s Ben Smith to provide evidence that “many black Democrats in South Carolina love Biden.” While that may be true, it’s hardly a representation of the American people.
Finally, Lemon offered his own personal evidence—a poll of one—his mother, who he described as a “church lady,” and whom he said “loves Biden.”
It’s clear that Lemon is trying desperately to uphold Biden’s image as an adored figure in the Democratic party. But the evidence just doesn’t support his claim. The people, it seems, are not quite as passionate about Biden as Lemon would have us believe.
