Democrats are trying to push through a 4,000-page spending bill just two weeks before the new year and demand that Republicans vote not—Without time to read the damn thing.
Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer faced tough questions from reporters regarding the newly proposed omnibus spending bill.
The massive bill comes in at a hefty $1.66 trillion and includes funds for various nongovernmental organizations, Ukraine, and a Planned Parenthood clinic. The entire bill is 4,155 pages and a vote is expected to be held in the Senate tonight.
As the Senators had only a few hours to review the bill, the reporter asked Schumer if he was comfortable with it and if he had enough time to read it in its entirety.
Schumer responded that he hadn’t finished reading the bill, but that he was confident that it was a comprehensive piece of legislation that would meet the needs of the American people. He also said that he believes the bill is a good starting point for future negotiations.
“How is it a functional process to drop a 4,100-page bill this morning and expect a vote on it tomorrow?” a reporter asked. “Most of Congress hasn’t had a chance to review this.”
“The bill has been carefully worked on by the appropriations committee for a very, very long time. Most of the provisions were well-known weeks and weeks in advance. Getting this bill done for the American people, which really matters, is the most important thing.”

How big is the bill that Democrats want lawmakers to vote on without reading? Just check out this picture of KY Senator Rand Paul as he poses next to the massive bill:
I wonder how long it would take the clerk to read this… pic.twitter.com/iaphBzTEsS

I don’t think anyone should have to explain how ignorant and irresponsible it would be to pass a bill without reading it—But that the pressure from Democrats, “Pass this or there will be a government shutdown”.
