Recently, Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), called for “historic leadership” from the president and for investment in ending poverty, housing, climate and education in the wake of Tyre Nichols’ death at the hands of the police. Bowman spoke on CNN’s “At This Hour with Kate Bouldan” prior to the funeral of 29-year-old Nichols.
When asked if he saw President Joe Biden as a leader on the issue, Bowman said, “No.” He then called for the president to provide “Roosevelt and Lincoln-type historic leadership on this issue and so many others. We cannot just paint around the edges because that maintains the status quo. We have to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. We have to introduce and pass the People’s Justice Guarantee so community members can reimagine and restructure public safety in our country.”
Bowman then said, “The research shows we need a public health approach to public safety. You want to make us safer? Invest in poverty, in ending poverty, invest in housing, invest in climate, invest in education. That is how we make our country safer. What we’re doing is adding more police and feeding the prison industrial complex and that has to stop.”
It’s safe to say that the Democrats have gone too far in their insane spending. It’s disgraceful that Bowman and the Democrats are asking for “historic” levels of spending on poverty, housing, climate, and education. It’s even more outrageous that Bowman is suggesting that investing in these areas will make the country safer.
Nichols’s death has sadly made full circle on the Democrat’s wheel of madness. They first spun his death as a racial issue, but failed as all parties were black. They were unable to argue that his death was a ‘gun problem’, because Nichols was unarmed so now they’re pushing that it’s a climate change and class issue?
If the messaging here sounds a little unclear, don’t worry you’re not alone. The Democrats was all over the place even demanding that Biden “pay back” minority communities after receiving their support. To make matters worse, he also dodged the question of whether or not he would support Biden running for a second term in 2024.
What is clear, however, is that Democrats have not been the most responsible stewards of public safety in recent years.
Take, for example, the Black Lives Matter movement. While it began as a way to bring attention to the injustices faced by African Americans, it has since become a platform for radical leftists to push for an end to policing and the defunding of law enforcement. This type of rhetoric could lead to more crime and violence in our cities, not less.
