Colorado Governor Jared Polis made a daring move on Monday night when he contacted New York City Mayor Eric Adams to notify him of the plan to send an inflow of migrants to his city. This has been a contentious issue since Joe Biden assumed office and began to rescind several of Trump’s actions. While Democrats are anxious to expand our borders, they frequently overlook the fact that one state can only take so much before becoming overloaded.
In response, Mayor Adams flipped out on Gov. Polis, calling the plan unfair and claiming there was “no more room at the inn” for any more migrants. This is a rare example of two senior Democrats going head-to-head over an issue like this and shows just how serious the situation has become in New York City.
With other states refusing to open their doors, it seems as though NYC may have taken on far too much responsibility for taking care of migrants coming in from outside countries.
Recently, the Biden administration has asked certain states, such as New York City, to take in more immigrants and refugees. This has been met with resistance, as the city is already struggling with its own issues such as homelessness and poverty, which could be exacerbated by this influx of immigrants if not handled properly.
This has led to the mayor of New York City urging other cities and states to share in the responsibility of taking in these immigrants, rather than expecting one city or state alone to take them all in.
This is a difficult decision for all involved, as previously, Republican governors were heavily criticized for trying to share the burden of immigration with blue states.
However, the same criticism is not being directed towards the Democratic governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, when he is put in the same position. It is clear that something needs to be done to address the increasing levels of immigration and the strain it is putting on the resources of
