Cowardly Pence Tries To Defend His Actions On Jan. 6th

Embattled Mike Pence is drowning in bad reviews. He is grasping at straws, trying to stay relevant in his political climbing to the top after being at the top and betraying the American people and President Donald J. Trump. After months of quiet climbing, Pence has decided to take a different tact and defend himself because he is not getting the political burst of energy he apparently thought he would get.

“In break from Trump, Mike Pence said he was ‘proud’ to certify the election and that ‘no single person’ should be able to choose the president,” Business Insider reported Thursday night.

Apparently, the establishment believes that trying to discredit Trump by pushing a sort of “political wokeism” at the Regan Library is a smart vote-catching move.

Left-Leaning Business Insider wrote:

In a speech Thursday, former Vice President Mike Pence broke from President Donald Trump by asserting he did his constitutional duty when he led the certification of the election results.

Speaking at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, Pence defended his actions on January 6, when a pro-Trump mob breached the Capitol and forced lawmakers to evacuate. Some mob members believed the vice president could stop the certification, as Trump had claimed, and were chanting “Hang Mike Pence.”

“Now there are those in our party who believe that in my position as presiding officer over the joint session that I possessed the authority to reject or return electoral votes certified by the states,” Pence said. “But the Constitution provides the vice president with no such authority before the joint session of Congress.”

Pence’s defense of himself is simply never going to get positive political play, and that was a miscalculation of overly elevated and over isolated political consultants somewhere.  To the regular person on the ground that day, what Pence did was an unforgivable betrayal of the American creed.

I ran into a staffer with Mike Pence, who I know from North Carolina, on January 6th as I was walking back to the house I had rented on Capitol Hill for a few days to cover events in DC.  I was in a sort of daze after being around the Capitol for over 6 hours on the 6th, literally watching events unfold in front of my face, interviewing numerous people, and trying to make sense of what was happening.

What was most noteworthy about this brief moment of crossing, I noticed on the man’s face I had known through the Trump campaign cycle of 2016, was there weird smirk and a sort of lift in his step as he walked from behind me, sort of bouncing along to cross traffic and walk to his residence.  We had always warmly said hello, many, many times before over the years. He was so sort of gleeful; he didn’t even recognize me.

Being older and bogged down with cameras, I was cold, wet, and exhausted after walking around what felt like a bizarre movie screen, cold, wet and exhausted.. I was slow to let him pass me to cross the road he was too far ahead of me for me to say hello, and watching him, It hit me instantly that this man was taking a victory lap, and Mike Pence and his team may believe that they at once took town a dragon for the established order in DC, by taking down Trump and making all of his supporters disappear. Instinct is weird, there is no way to really explain where hunches come from, but that was my immediate thought upon seeing the Pence staffer that day.

No one cares what Pence says.  The American electorate says they prefer Republicans and Firebrand Populists Ron Desantis and Donald J. Trump, both of Florida and Pence trails in popularity with Republicans.

I covered that polling recently:

In American politics, there is growing evidence that a ticket for 2024 that had Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Republican Donald J. Trump in any order would be a blockbuster hit amount the growing American Populist/Conservative voting base.

Carmine Sabine wrote about new grassroots evidence of the pair’s popularity for Conservative Brief:

“It is commonly believed at this point that Donald Trump is the undisputed leader of the Republican Party and the de facto front runner for the party’s nomination for president in 2024.

But politics is an interesting animal. Another may be as popular as Trump and who just narrowly defeated him in the Western Conservative Summit’s straw poll for the 2024 presidential election. And that man is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Colorado Politics reported.

DeSantis led the vote with about 75% to Trump’s roughly 72% in the highly unscientific poll conducted online using the approval voting method.

The summit, in its 12th year, is sponsored by Colorado Christian University’s Centennial Institute and drew around 500 people on Friday and Saturday to a downtown Denver hotel, plus an audience numbering in the tens of thousands who watched online, organizers said.”

Interesting. However, the important part to me was to see where GOP Establishment darling Mike Pence was.  He got a humiliating 21%.

Unfortunately Trump running as President can’t have DeSantis as his VP unless one of them change their state of residence. We’d love to have either Trump or DeSantis move to Texas to do that.

My last paycheck was $2500 for working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 8k for months now and she works about 30 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. The potential with this is endless. This is what I do >>

Trump is living out of state at the moment, unless the media got that wrong. He’s somewhere up the East Coast. So that plan still might be doable.

I used to like Pence, until his actions on January 6th. He really let me and a majority of America down. I hope next time Trumps in the White House he has either DeSantis or Candece Owens as VP. And also, Pence has now chance for presidency in 2024 at all. RINO Pence’s political career is basically done for and I am glad.

I think it’s less important than earlier but still important to many including me. Enthusiasts still want control and privacy. With Linux phones starting to offer full freedom, Android will have to increase user control …….>>>>>

What is the point of having the VP “certify” an election if the VP has no authority or power to pass judgement on the integrity of the election?!?! Might as well skip the requirement if it’s always a mandatory certification! It’s very hard to imagine the Founding Fathers, who designed our Heaven-inspired Constitution deciding to include a step in the election process saying, “Just for fun, let’s mandate that the VP must always certify an election. Much isn’t required of a VP under this Constitution, so we’ve got to give him something to do besides stand-by in case the President croaks.”
Pence has always seemed like a nice-guy, feckless bureaucrat.
