The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been trying to cover up the truth about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic for months—and now they’re lashing out against a bill introduced in the US Senate that would declassify information about the virus’s origin.
Senator Josh Hawley’s COVID-Origin Act, which was unanimously passed by the Senate last week, would require the Director of National Intelligence to declassify information related to the virus’s origin.
The CCP responded to the bill with a three-page letter to Hawley’s office, accusing the US of “undermining international solidarity” in fighting the coronavirus and repeating Beijing’s argument that the virus could have potentially originated in a North Carolina lab. In the letter, an official from the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C. accused Congress of trying to cast blame away from the US response to COVID and urged the US to “stop politicizing this issue.”
Senator Hawley responded to the CCP’s letter by saying that it was a sign that he was “on the right track.” He argued that the American people deserve to know the truth and that China must be held accountable.
Unfortunately, the CCP is not the only one attempting to cover up the truth about the origins of the pandemic. Even in the United States, there are those who are trying to downplay the truth and deflect responsibility away from the US response to the crisis.
This is why Senator Hawley’s bill is so important—it is a necessary step in holding those responsible for the pandemic accountable and in ensuring that the truth about the virus’s origin is not swept under the rug.
