Chick-fil-A will roll out Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce at restaurants nationwide on Nov. 16, the Atlanta-based chain’s first new permanent sauce in 10 years.
The sauce will be sold in standard dipping cups and 8-ounce bottles, the company told Fox News Digital. It blends the chain’s classic sauce — known for its mustard notes and smoky tang — with spicy peppers and a hint of sweetness. Chick-fil-A said its menu team set out to honor the original recipe while building something new.
“We know our guests love bold, spicy flavors, and in our year of newstalgia, we’re turning up the heat on a classic,” said Allison Duncan, Chick-fil-A’s director of menu and packaging, in a statement.
“As our first new permanent sauce in 10 years, Spicy Chick-fil-A Sauce delivers an exciting kick to the signature flavor our guests know and love.”
Chick-fil-A said a year of customer research consistently showed a spicy version of its signature sauce was the top request for new menu additions. The chain also tested spicy chicken strips at two Georgia locations earlier this year.
Online, reaction has been mixed. Reddit users were speculating about a spicy sauce before the official announcement, with some excited and others doubtful the heat would match the marketing.
“A big pet peeve of mine is so many food items that say ‘spicy’ but aren’t. I’m skeptical of this sauce too,” one Reddit user wrote. Another joked, “You mean I no longer have to mix my CFA and Buffalo to make Chickfalo sauce anymore.” A third commenter said bluntly that “most places market something ‘spicy’ and it barely has any kick.”
Chick-fil-A last added a new sauce in 2016, when it introduced Sweet & Spicy Sriracha. The chain’s original three sauces — Honey Mustard, Barbeque and Polynesian — debuted in 1984, and the original Chick-fil-A Sauce went nationwide in 2006.
