Chuck Lowe, father of actor Chad Lowe, posted a tribute to his granddaughter Fiona on Instagram Wednesday, one day after the family announced her death at age 13. The post included a photo of Fiona smiling in a pool, captioned, “Rest in peace, sweet Fiona.”
Chad Lowe, 58, and his family announced Fiona’s death Tuesday in a statement shared with Page Six. “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the statement read. “She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.”
“She was adored by her sisters, and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family, and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
The statement closed with a resource for anyone struggling: “If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”
An email obtained by Page Six shows that parents at Fiona’s school were notified Tuesday morning by the principal that a student had died. The student was not named in the email, which read, “It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students. Our sincere condolences go out to the student’s family, friends and teachers.” The email added that counselors were available for students and staff needing support.
Chad Lowe, brother of actor Rob Lowe, shared Fiona with his wife of 16 years, Kim Painter. The couple also has daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10.
The family’s last public red carpet appearance together came on Feb. 4, 2023, at the premiere of Marvel’s “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” in Burbank, California, where Fiona was photographed with an arm around her younger sister Nixie.
In a December 2025 appearance on the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, Chad spoke about fatherhood to three daughters. “It’s so interesting because always wanting to have my own experiences and not live in the shadow or follow in the footsteps of somebody, I get the experience of being a girl dad, which is such a privilege,” the “Pretty Little Liars” actor said.
“And I feel bad for anyone who’s a parent … I feel like having daughters is such an incredible privilege because it takes what I have known intellectually about women and all the equality and the glass ceiling that’s there and how it’s a misogynistic world in many ways,” he continued. “And now it’s taken what I’ve known and it’s put it in my heart because I now have three daughters. So I look at the world from, really, their perspective.”
The family has asked for privacy as they grieve.
