Burbank Clown House, the free Halloween attraction that has drawn thousands of visitors to a front yard in the Los Angeles suburb each year, will not open for the 2026 season.
“We here at Burbank Clown House are sad to announce that we will be dark for the 2026 season,” organizers said in a late September Instagram post.
The decision follows a scramble to relocate the attraction after large crowds overwhelmed last year’s site. Organizers said they “worked tirelessly” to secure a new location, but two potential partnerships fell through, leaving them without a site in time for this October.
Organizers say the attraction will return in 2027 with a new “Klown Maze” feature. “We’re looking forward to 2027 and brining you an amazing experience,” they wrote, keeping the original spelling from the post.
Fans reacted with disappointment in the comments. “Oh man! Gut punch after gut punch! Definitely better to take the time then try to last minute pull something together,” one commenter wrote, adding, “Sorry to hear it guys! But I’m sure next year is gonna be insane!” Another asked, “Does this mean nothing at all ??? My son will be devastated.” A third wrote, “Wow, the city of Burbank is going downhill fast. Can’t even get their act together to help host a fun Halloween event. Very sad.”
Last year’s attraction featured more than 100 animatronics and 10 live performers dressed as clowns, according to CBS LA.
Gary Lane launched Burbank Clown House in 2019 with his brother, Larry, and set designer Michael Bowen. Lane has described the attraction as a necessity for families priced out of bigger seasonal destinations.
“So many parents tell us ‘I can’t carry my kids to Universal, I can’t afford Disney’. This is their Halloween,” Lane told CBS LA.
In 2025, Lane estimated the attraction pulled in roughly 5,000 visitors on Friday nights alone, with another 3,000 stopping by over the rest of the week. The event has always been free to attend, with organizers relying on donations through their website to keep it running.
