The Denver Broncos beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 in overtime Thursday night after cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian intercepted a Sam Darnold pass intended for Rashid Shaheed at the Denver 43, setting up Wil Lutz’s game-winning 53-yard field goal.

It was Darnold’s second interception of the night. The Broncos improved to 4-2 despite an injury-battered roster and an inconsistent offense. The Seahawks fell to 3-3, losing for the second time in five days and already matching their total loss count from last season, when they won the Super Bowl.

The game nearly ended in regulation when Kris Abrams-Draine picked off Darnold at the Denver 30 with 1:25 remaining. But the Broncos burned just 15 seconds off the clock before punting, giving Seattle a lifeline.

The Seahawks made the most of it. After managing only three points through their first eight drives, they strung together an 11-play, 67-yard drive capped by George Holani’s 1-yard touchdown run. Darnold then hit Shaheed for a 2-point conversion, cutting Denver’s lead to 14-11 with 5:41 left.

Seattle tied the game at 14 on Jason Myers’ 34-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in regulation, set up by a 31-yard Shaheed punt return after Denver’s sixth three-and-out of the night.

Bo Nix directed two long scoring drives for Denver in the first half. The Broncos’ depleted defense put heavy pressure on Darnold all game, sacking him five times and hitting him 17 times.

Seattle tight end Elijah Arroyo left late in the first half with an apparent right shoulder injury suffered while diving for a fumbled ball.

Denver was missing star cornerback Patrick Surtain II and starting safety Talanoa Hufanga, both sidelined with ankle injuries. Running back Tyler Badie injured his thumb in the second quarter, and receiver Jaylen Waddle was evaluated for a shoulder injury in the third quarter before returning to the game.

The Seahawks host the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25. The Broncos host the Arizona Cardinals the same day.
