A Brevard County woman has entered a plea deal after months in jail stemming from a traffic stop that ended with deputies alleging she had smuggled drugs into custody hidden on her body.
Reagan Cox, 30, was arrested in late June and charged with resisting an officer without violence following a traffic stop. Officers said Cox was “failing to maintain a single lane of travel” before they pulled her over, and that she appeared “slow” and “lethargic” with “the odor of burnt marijuana” present.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey’s office later said Cox had introduced contraband into the jail by concealing it on her body, a claim that led to additional criminal charges.
The Smoking Gun reported that Cox appeared in court Tuesday and entered pleas to charges of introducing contraband into a jail and obstruction. Prosecutors dropped a separate drug possession count as part of the deal.
A Circuit Court judge sentenced Cox to 18 months of probation and a fine of roughly $700. She also received a 70-day jail sentence, which she had already served in full following her June arrest.
According to the sheriff’s office, a baggie that tested positive for cocaine fell from Cox’s body at the jail. How the substance came to be in her possession has not been established, and the case now concludes with the plea agreement.
