The Trump administration is making significant strides in its immigration enforcement efforts. In a matter of months since President Donald Trump resumed office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has increased its arrest and detention numbers. The U.S.-Mexico border is experiencing historic lows in activity, marking a stark contrast to the previous administration’s challenges.
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson commended President Trump for fulfilling his promises. She highlighted efforts to secure the Southern Border and deport illegal immigrants. Jackson noted that ICE achieved a milestone, detaining over 2,000 illegal immigrants on consecutive days.
The President’s crackdown on cartels has been effective, cutting the flow of fentanyl across the border by more than half. ICE has made over 100,000 arrests since Trump’s second term began. On a single day, ICE reported 2,200 arrests, showcasing a significant increase in enforcement activity.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now claims “total control” over the southern border. Daily border encounters have decreased by 93%, and encounters with “gotaways” are down 95%. Migrant crossings have nearly ceased, dropping by 99.99% since the administration took office.
About 53,000 foreign nationals are currently in detention, awaiting deportation. The border activity under the current administration shows a marked improvement from the Biden era. President Joe Biden’s tenure saw an average of 160,000 monthly border encounters.
The Biden administration’s approach severely strained federal and local resources. President Biden attempted to impose a 100-day deportation moratorium, which was later blocked by the courts. This led to record-low deportation numbers in fiscal year 2021.
The Trump administration’s enforcement has also resulted in a decrease in fentanyl trafficking. From March 2024 to March 2025, fentanyl traffic at the southern border fell significantly. This is a notable achievement in combating the drug crisis.
ICE officers have continued to apprehend dangerous criminal migrants within the U.S. Recent arrests include individuals charged with serious crimes like child sexual assault and murder. These arrests demonstrate the administration’s commitment to public safety.
In Los Angeles, ICE detained a Salvadoran national for child sodomy. In Chicago, a Mexican national was apprehended for criminal sexual assault of a child. In Houston, another Mexican national faced charges of indecent sexual contact with a child.
A Honduran national in El Paso was arrested for possession of child pornography. A Laotian national was also apprehended for murder and attempted murder. These operations underscore ICE’s dedication to removing criminal elements from the country.
Jackson praised the administration’s America First approach, emphasizing the positive impact on American citizens. She stated that it’s challenging times for illegal aliens under Trump’s leadership. The administration’s policies prioritize the safety and security of Americans.
