Dan Koh, a former Biden administration official, won a six-candidate Democratic primary in Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District on Tuesday, putting him on track to win the seat outright in a district rated safely blue.
Koh is seeking to replace Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., who gave up his House seat to run for Senate against incumbent Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. — a bid that ended in defeat the same night Koh won his primary.
Koh had the backing of former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris. That endorsement traces back to his own time in the administration: he served as chief of staff to then-Labor Secretary Marty Walsh before becoming deputy assistant to the president and deputy director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
This was Koh’s second run for Congress. He narrowly lost the 2018 Democratic primary in the neighboring 3rd Congressional District to Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass.
