Nathan Gallagher, the former “Below Deck Mediterranean” bosun convicted last month of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, has stopped drinking and entered counseling, according to his former captain, Sandy Yawn.

Yawn made the claim Tuesday night in an interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” before boarding a City Cruises outing in New York City.

“Nathan struggles. We talk, and I encourage him to stop drinking and get help, and that’s what he’s doing right now. He’s stopped drinking, he’s going to meetings and he’s trying to change his life.”

Gallagher, 28, was arrested in Sydney last December on domestic violence charges. Police accused him of assaulting his then 29-year-old girlfriend, Gael Cameron, at an apartment complex, according to a police report obtained by Rolling Stone.

On Sept. 1, a hearing found Gallagher guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm, choking and common assault. He did not appear at the hearing, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Court documents allege Gallagher “suffocated and choked” Cameron at their home in December 2025, covering her mouth and nose with one hand while she “tried to pull away.” The documents state he “persisted” even as she struggled to breathe. After Cameron elbowed him in the mouth, the documents allege he put both hands around her neck and struck her jaw with an open palm, causing “pain and swelling.”

Gallagher has denied choking Cameron. Judge Janine Lacy nonetheless found the offenses proven.

Gallagher and Cameron share a 1-year-old son, Kayden.

One week before the hearing, Gallagher spoke publicly for the first time since his arrest, telling Rolling Stone: “I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions. But I will not accept being portrayed solely through one person’s account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it.”

He said he possessed “contemporaneous video footage from the night in question, as well as messages and other records,” and referenced unspecified disputes over the relationship’s end, past allegations Cameron made about a former partner, and financial matters tied to a Sydney apartment purchase. “I have kept the evidence and will deal with it through the appropriate channels,” he said.

Bravo has confirmed it has cut ties with Gallagher. His arrest went unmentioned in the “Below Deck Med” Season 11 finale, which was filmed in summer 2025 and aired Oct. 5 — a decision that drew criticism from some fans.

Yawn said she wasn’t present for the alleged incident and declined to weigh in on the specifics, but said Gallagher’s removal from the show was warranted. “I think, not knowing that information, he had exactly what he deserved because nothing had happened on the boat or during filming. It was after,” she said.

After the finale aired, Cameron posted to her Instagram Story thanking fans for their support. “It’s been a tough season, but I have been using the past few months to quietly heal and rebuild for little man and myself,” she wrote. “I really appreciate the love you have sent our way, especially with everything that’s come to light. I’m really working on finding myself again and moving forward.”
