Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams took part in full practice on Thursday for the first time in nearly a month, but he declined to tell reporters the medical grade of the hamstring injury that has sidelined him.

Williams described the injury as a “pretty serious” hamstring tear but refused to confirm or deny reports characterizing it as a Grade 2 strain. When a reporter pressed him on why he wouldn’t share the grade, Williams answered flatly.

“Because it’s not deserving,” Williams said.

During a five-minute opening statement, Williams criticized national media coverage of his injury timeline.

“There’s nothing that has come out that has been right about what it is and what it has been,” he said.

Williams was hurt late in Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, pulling up on a fourth-quarter scramble toward the end zone before being carted off in tears.

“I felt a pop,” Williams said. “That’s why I looked back. I looked back just like everybody else does when you feel a pop. Think somebody grabbed you and nobody grabbed me.”

Williams addressed the emotional reaction on the field Thursday, saying it reflected how much he cares about his teammates.

“I’m always going to show emotion, especially when I can’t be out there with the guys,” Williams said. “Everybody making jokes and all of that, but that doesn’t bother me.”

Williams said he has been doing five to six hours of rehab daily and has recently hit top sprint speeds in workouts. Despite logging back-to-back full practice designations this week, his availability for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons has not been decided.

“Before you start asking, do not know if I’m playing yet,” Williams said. “If I’m good to go, I’m good to go. If I’m not and we’re just not ready, then we got to wait.”
