Anthropic Moves Toward IPO Before Thanksgiving After Admitting AI Could Threaten Humanity

Anthropic is pushing ahead with plans to go public before Thanksgiving, even as the California company’s own IPO filing warns that its AI products could pose “existential risks to humanity.”

According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, Anthropic could begin formal marketing for the offering as early as the week of Nov. 9, putting the company on track to start trading on public markets before the holiday. Internal discussions are still underway and could change, but sources told the outlet Anthropic is expected to go public no later than the end of this year. Reuters had earlier reported the company was likely to wait until after the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

The company, led by CEO Dario Amodei and maker of the Claude chatbot, is expected to command a valuation north of $2 trillion, which would place it among the most valuable companies on earth.

Billions in Losses, Trillions in Spending

A copy of Anthropic’s S-1 prospectus obtained by Reuters this week lays out staggering numbers. The company plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure in the coming years. In 2025 alone, it posted an operating loss of more than $8 billion and a net loss of $42 billion. Revenue for the year reached nearly $4.6 billion, a twelvefold jump from the prior year.
