ABC fans hoping for a quick return of “High Potential” will have to wait. The network has confirmed the Kaitlin Olson-led drama was renewed for a third season earlier this year, but it did not make ABC’s fall lineup.
ABC says “High Potential,” “The Rookie,” and “Will Trent” are all being held for midseason premieres, with all three expected back in early 2027. No official dates have been announced, but the best estimate points to early January. “The Rookie” and its new spinoff, “The Rookie: North,” are expected to air Mondays, while “High Potential” and “Will Trent” are likely to anchor Tuesday nights.
The new season brings a change in leadership behind the camera. Season 2 showrunner Todd Harthan has left the series. Taking over as co-showrunners and executive producers are Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, known for their work on “Poker Face.”
“We are so grateful to be working with Craig, Karey, Simran and our partners at 20th and ABC on this exciting new chapter of High Potential,” the Zuckermans said in a statement. “The fact we get to collaborate with Drew, Sarah, and Andrea at Goddard Textiles and the incomparable Kaitlin Olson is a dream come true. We’re looking forward to climbing into the brilliant, bustling mind of Morgan Gillory and crafting intricate mysteries worthy of her genius.”
Production on Season 3 has already begun, according to the show’s social media accounts.
In the meantime, every episode of “High Potential” is available to stream on Hulu and Disney+, with Season 2 episodes also posted on ABC.com. Disney+ subscriptions start at $11.99 a month with ads or $18.99 a month ($189.99 a year) without ads, and bundle options with Hulu, HBO Max, and ESPN+ are also available.
“High Potential” is expected to return in early 2027 on ABC.
