A cash machine loaded with free money has shown up somewhere in Los Angeles, and finding it is turning into a citywide scavenger hunt.
The stunt promotes the upcoming comedy heist film “How to Rob a Bank,” and anyone who tracks down the ATM and punches in the right PIN can walk away with real money.
The hunt kicked off Wednesday and runs through Sunday. To take part, people sign up online with their name and email address, and in return they get a PIN along with clues pointing toward the machine’s location.
The ATM is stocked with ten $100 cash prizes, plus movie tickets and concession vouchers tied to the film.
It’s first-come, first-served, and the rules cap it at one prize per person for the whole promotion.
“Each eligible qualifying redemption will receive one available prize. Limit one (1) prize per person during the Promotion. Once awarded, a prize is reserved for that participant,” the official rules state.
The gimmick has already drawn attention online. One X user called it “genius marketing,” writing: “A movie about robbing a bank promoted by an ATM that hands out free cash is genius marketing. Whoever finds it is getting the most honest review this movie will ever get.”
“How to Rob a Bank” stars Pete Davidson as part of a crew of bank robbers who film their own crimes for social media. The film is directed by David Leitch, known for “The Fall Guy,” “Deadpool 2” and “John Wick.” Before directing, Leitch worked for years as a stuntman, including five stints as Brad Pitt’s stunt double.
The movie opens in theaters Nov. 13. The free-cash ATM hunt ends Sunday.
